MAXX MCGATHEY - IMAGINARY EYES

Maxx McGathey is an modern composer from Chicago, IL. In 2024, Maxx released his album, Imaginary Eyes, on Nudie Records. According to his website, “(Imaginary Eyes) is a deep dive into this cavernous twilight zone, which uses the sounds of mid-20th century suspense cinema as a jumping off point for more modern experimentation.”

MY ROLE

Graphic Design and Video Production

Maxx asked me if I’d like to help make some promotional materials prior to the release of Imaginary Eyes. Using touchstones like Bernard Hermann, Alfred Hitchcock, and The Twilight Zone, I helped develop a visual language to support his midcentury-inspired instrumental music.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

To create assets that were both authentic to the midcentury time period and original to this project, I didn’t want to rely on stock imagery or “vintage” filters. I created everything from scratch, including photography and graphic design.
